Three cheers for students who care!!!

For the last eight years, the students and staff at Parkwood Sixth Form College and Ark William Parker Academy have been involved in raising funds to support the large village of Kabubbu in Uganda through the Quicken Trust.

Hastings Furniture Service: the first 25 years

Hastings Furniture Service has been making its presence felt in town for 25 years – its mission is to provide affordable furniture and electrical goods to low-income families. Among its other activities it provides training in relevant skills such as furniture restoration for the unemployed and unqualified, and opportunities for volunteers to make a worthwhile contribution. Comedian Mark Thomas is also part of the story, as chief executive Naomi Ridley explained to Nick Terdre.

Traidcraft fillip for Hastings Fairtrade

The steering group set up to plot Hastings’ route to Fairtrade status received a fillip when it held its first meeting, with news that Traidcraft, the ethical and fairtrade supplier, will be holding a roadshow here in late January. HOT’s Nick Terdre reports.

Magical in every way

KD Faerydae lives near Hastings. She is currently taking a break from veterinary nursing to write, travel and spend time with loved ones. A lover of all things fantasy, KD’s gifted imagination led others to advise she write a book, resulting in the creation of Hidden Magic, a fantasy book for children aged 10 to 100 and the first book in the Liberty Realm series, writes Chris Cormack.

Born-again pier set to open in spring 2015

Preparations for demolishing the damaged buildings on Hastings pier and restoring it to its former glory are well under way, and the born-again pier should be ready to open its doors to the public by spring 2015. Deepraj Shrestha reports.
