Energise Sussex Coast is helping people to cut their energy bills and save up to £200 in the process – and for the Big Happy Energy Day at Sussex Coast College on Wednesday 17 February, residents of Hastings are invited to bring their energy and water bills for checking, get tips on how to make their homes cosier and get help with grants to stay warmer, healthier and safer. The event will be dedicated to the memory of Jeremy Birch, leader of Hastings Borough Council until his untimely death in 2015. Richard Watson writes.

The Fat Tuesday festival is upon us, a chance to let your hair down before submitting to the deprivations of Lent, if you’re that way inclined. Alternatively simply a chance to let your hair down. The organisers have largely stuck to last year’s tried and tested formula, with daytime events at the weekend complementing the evening and late-night happenings on the other nights. John Bratby: Everything but the Kitchen Sink

Last year there was a call to arms from the Jerwood. “Bring us your Bratbys.” And they did – in droves. On 19 October 2015 there was a bizarre sight as a stream of visitors crossed the road bearing large rectangular treasures. The result is a retrospective of John Bratby’s work: Everything but the Kitchen Sink, including the Kitchen Sink. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to see what had made the final cut –400 submissions whittled down to 66.
