Resonance FM transmits live from Kings Rd on Sat 10 Feb for Fat Tuesday

The London based community radio station for the arts comes down south to Hastings to be part of the week long Mardi Gras celebrations. The Hello Goodbye show of eclectic new music hosted by DeXter Bentley visits town for live performance and interview. Jude Montague previews the event.

Climate campaigners take ‘giant letters’ message to County Hall

On Tuesday (6 February) local climate campaigners – with strong representation from Hastings & St Leonards – staged a ‘Time to Divest’ protest outside the last County Council meeting before the next votes on fossil fuel divestment on 22 February. Gabriel Carlyle reports.

Despite funding cut Fat Tuesday is back: 9-13 February

The Hastings Fat Tuesday Festival is a local favourite. Now Britain’s biggest Mardi Gras is returning, a celebrated late-winter musical blowout that also has a wider programme of activity to support the communities of Hastings and St Leonards. Hastings Fat Tuesday (HFT) is supported by trustees and managed by a small team. Bernard McGinley reports.

Internationally renowned piano competition returns to Hastings in 2024

The 17th Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition will take place from 22 Feb – 2 March 2024 at the White Rock Theatre. 40 extraordinary young concert pianists from 18 countries will compete for the Sophia Guo First Prize, an award that includes the Hastings Fellowship – an invaluable artist development package provided by one of the UK’s leading artists’ agents – professional engagements and a substantial cash prize, as well as the Molly Townson cup. There are also cash prizes for the other finalists. Nicky Webb writes.

The Guildhall Trust becomes the new operator of the White Rock Theatre

From 1 February, the Guildhall Trust took over the tenure of Hastings’ much-loved White Rock Theatre. To mark the occasion, a launch party was held in the theatre to meet the new operators, including the Chair, CEO and team members of the Trust, plus White Rock Theatre Director, Nadine Passley and the venue team who are transferring to the new operator.  HOT’s Paul Way-Rider attended the event.
