St Anne’s Hollington again threatened with demolition

Unlike many of the borough’s buildings, St Anne’s church in Chambers Road Hollington is mentioned in the Pevsner authoritative architectural guide. A new planning application continues the threat of demolition. Three previous proposals were reported in HOT. Protection for the church has been nonexistent: no listing, no local listing, e.g. Why did Hastings Borough Council (HBC) not impose Article 4 Direction to save an exceptional building? Bernard McGinley tries to find out.

John Cole’s Shadow Boxers

John Cole’s photographic work will be familiar to many Hastings folk through his books about the Hastings fishing community featured in Generations and Sea Dogs, as well as his work being prominently displayed on the net huts around the Stade. He told HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths about a new book he has in gestation called Shadow Boxers, which goes back to the 1970s and ’80s when he spent time in the sweaty boxing gyms and arenas in New York and Jersey.

John Logie Baird and the Invention of Television inspires a new generation of artists

Artists inspired by John Logie Baird the Hastings-based inventor who was working on ‘seeing by wireless’ one hundred years ago exhibit at the Electro Studios Project Space for the Spirit of Invention festival. Chris Simpson came down from London to co-curate the show with  Jude Montague who talks about the preparations for the festival show and talking to BBC South East Television about the inventor of television.
