Proposal to cram Archery Ground to the max — just like old times

Early this century, it was proposed to cover the Hastings College site within Archery Road with as very many units as possible. The achievements of James and Decimus Burton were not considerations. Local people opposed the plans for years, using many person-hours. Bernard McGinley reports on a bruising business.

Trial of Hastings Three adjourned

The Hastings Three appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court this morning (27 August) to stand trial for ‘aggravated trespass’, following a peaceful protest at General Dynamics’ arms factory in St Leonards on 29 February 2024 over the companies’ complicity with Israeli war crimes in Gaza. Gabriel Carlyle reports for HOT.

Three to stand trial for peaceful protest at Hastings arms factory

Jazz Hastings welcomes Rebecka Edlund, Swedish artiste with a difference

For its gig on Tuesday 3 September Jazz Hastings welcomes an artiste who is quite a bit different from the usual guest – award-winning Swedish singer, lyricist and composer Rebecka Edlund, whose music is a joyous mix of jazz and Scandinavian folk music, herding calls, bird whistles and other sounds from nature, says Julian Norridge.

Patrick Glass: Portrait of a Collector

If you happen to be strolling along the seafront by Marine Court between now and the end of the month, you may well do a double-take as you pass Hastings Arts Forum. The current exhibition is a glimpse into the private collection of Patrick Glass: a man who embraces art and humanity but has no great love for how Picasso changed the art world in 1907. Erica Smith and Bernard McGinley marvel at his collection.
