Banging the Oil Drum for Fossil Fuel Divestment

This Tuesday, 12 July, climate campaigners from across East Sussex, Brighton and Hove joined forces for a ‘big noise demo’ outside County Hall. Their purpose was to demand that East Sussex County Council (ESCC) stop investing in fossil fuels. The protest included a samba band and Extinction Rebellion Brighton’s 20-foot model boat ‘Lightship Greta’ which was pushed up the hill to County Hall from the centre of Lewes. ‘XR22’ : The Hastings Snapshot Project

‘XR22’ is a unique project creating a digital repository of the town and its community in 2022. The ‘XR22’ Project is a digital, 3D mass-portrait of Hastings: its town, its culture and its people, using the latest emerging XR technologies – Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, 3D scanning and WebAR. Poetry from the heart of the revolution

This Thursday 21 July, award-winning partisan poet Matt Broomfield will visit Hastings’ St Mary’s in the Castle Cafe to perform work from his debut poetry collection. Brave Little Sternums: poems from Rojava was written in and about the remarkable women-led, direct-democratic revolution which is flourishing in Syrian Kurdistan. Lee Humphries writes.

HBC endorses call for Fossil Fuel Treaty

On Wednesday 13 July, at Muriel Matters House in Hastings, Hastings Borough Council voted to support the call for an international treaty to phase out fossil fuels (a ‘Fossil Fuel Treaty’) at its Full Council meeting. The vote was passed with two abstentions (Councillors Pragnell and Edwards) and two votes against (Councillors Marlow-Eastwood and Beaney).

HBC postpones levelling-up bid to round 3 — if there is one

Although round 2 of applications to the government’s Levelling Up Fund is under way, Hastings Borough Council (HBC) has decided to hold back its bid until round 3 — assuming there is one.
