JJ Waller’s St Leonards Festival 2022
Photographer JJ Waller shares his photographs of and his thoughts about this year’s St Leonards Festival.
I think I have been to every festival except the first one. My plan was to hopefully make a few images for potential use in my forthcoming St Leonards book. (Out for Xmas). My day started with a bus along to Bulverhythe to display a picture of the sadly departed Sue Wood at Fat Sues. Husband Keith and daughter Hazel kindly posed for a photo together.
The rest of my day (18,000 steps according to the pedometer on my phone!) was making pictures between the market on Kings Road, the festival and parade in Warrior Square and a side trip to take a look at the ‘rave’ on the Pier.
As usual I met, photographed and chatted with an eclectic bunch of people mostly for the first time. The festival is a key event in promoting the special identity of St Leonards-on-Sea. It didn’t disappoint. Congratulations to the volunteers, the organisers and the performers.
Hopefully the budget will increase, so the festival can expand next year it’s obvious that there is no shortage of quality ideas and talented local people to continue to make that happen.
I’ll be back for Pirates next week…
