Local church signs declaration for fossil-free churches

St John the Evangelist church in St Leonards has given its support to the movement for withdrawing investments from fossil fuel companies, and is a signatory to today’s declaration by like-minded Christian churches calling for a shift out of fossil fuels to clean alternatives. Nick Terdre reports.

Don’t miss the climate change bus: make pensions fossil free! This is the message from Divest East Sussex and Fossil Free Hastings. On Saturday 23 September campaigners from across East Sussex will be boarding one of the Big Lemon’s sustainable buses for a one-day tour of the county, taking the message about fossil fuel divestment – and the Divest East Sussex petition – to Hastings, Bexhill, Hailsham, Eastbourne, Seaford, Crowborough, Uckfield and Brighton. Local residents in 15,000-strong illegal march

Hastings and St Leonards residents – including two who found themselves at the head a 15,000-strong illegal march through the streets of Paris earlier this month – reported back on their experiences of the protests outside the UN climate summit at a meeting in Hastings this Sunday. The event was preceded by an hour-long musical event hosted by protestor Thad Skews.
