12 Claremont

New life in community use for 12 Claremont

Many have wondered while walking past the elegant 12 Claremont – next door to Hastings Library–what is going to happen to it. It was intended as an extension of the library but that dream rose and fell. Well now, at last, this historic building has been acquired by Heart of Hastings CLT who will bring it back to life as a Community hub. Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went along to the celebration of its successful acquisition to learn more.

Crowdfunder goes live for testing of local sea waters

Faced with the dumping of raw sewage in the sea by Southern Water, and the Environment Agency’s inadequate testing regime, Hastings and St Leonards Clean Water Action have launched a crowdfunder to pay for independent tests in the winter months. After three-year absence, piano competition prepares its return

The pieces are falling into place for Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, which begins this month. Fifty young pianists will contest the £15,000 first prize, the jury has been chosen and a graduate orchestra established in partnership with the Royal College of Music will make its debut during the semi-finals. Nick Terdre reports.
