Coronavirus statistical update: localised test and trace still proving problematic

Despite the deficiencies in data provision shown up by the Leicester outbreak, and government promises to remedy the situation, reports are still indicating that the NHS Test & Trace system is not working as well as it needs to on the ground. Octogenarian celebrates 20 years of caring

When Hastings resident Jackie Terry spotted an advert looking for people to give vulnerable teenagers a room, she could never have imagined where it would lead. Twenty years on, as she celebrates her 80th birthday, the mother-of-five says she “wouldn’t have missed it for the world”.

HAF-Gallery--reopening

Change comes to Hastings Arts Forum

It is with great relief that galleries, pubs and restaurants are now allowed to open. Albeit with social distancing. People have been so desperate for a bit of culture that in London, apparently, it has been difficult to book a time slot to visit. So Hastings Arts Form is open again, in a new guise. HOT’ Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went along to see and spoke to Martin Bradshaw about the changes.

Rock stars with a difference

Lucy Bell Gallery’s latest show Days of Rock has a collection of images of some of the effervescent 70s and 80s rock stars and photographers who captured that time both on stage and behind the scenes. Out of this pot pourri of images one particular set is markedly different.They are the work of Andrew Catlin, who has captured, in contrast to the exuberance of the stage acts, quiet and reflective moments. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths. met up with him to find out more about his practice.

Zoom Arts presents: The French Connection

 Zoom Arts members Nick Hill and Agnes Chevalier will unite once again as they present their second show of the year at the Zoom Gallery, Warrior Square Station. The French Connection exhibition will begin next Monday 27 July and continue all week until 8 August, from 10-4pm or by appointment. HOT’s Jordan Dixon writes.

Locals protest choice of Stade open space for Covid test site

The choice of the Stade open space as an occasional coronavirus test centre is to be reviewed following protests from Old Town residents. On the scheduled third day, the test team were moved elsewhere. Nick Terdre reports.

Stress management training films for NHS staff

For the past year Laurie Temple, who lives in Hastings, has been delivering stress management and mindfulness training workshops for the East Sussex NHS department of well-being for staff.  He is now about to make a series of related training films for NHS staff, and has launched a crowdfunding appeal to help finance them. HOT’s Paul Way-Rider reports.
