Dany runs an informal creative writing session once a month, focusing on one aspect of writing each session – could be dialogue, could be description, opening sentences, plotting, character, or any theme that makes good writing material (love, death, and pretty much everything in between).

HBC’s Bexhill Road development moves forward

Hastings Borough Council has taken a further step in its plans to build a supermarket on the former Peugeot site in Bexhill Road, which it has now purchased. However, questions have been asked about the scheme, which already has planning permission. Nick Terdre reports.

Iran’s only tenor comes to Opus Theatre

Opus Theatre will bring the inaugural season of its World Series to an end with a concert featuring Iran’s only tenor, Ramtin Ghazavi. He will be accompanied on the piano by artist in residence, Oliver Poole, for whom Ghazavi is “strong, charismatic and virtuoso, yet able to convey a depth of emotion and sincerity that is raw, captivating and at times mystical.” 

Free solar panel, SMART meter and energy workshop

Energise Sussex Coast, the local, not for profit, independent, impartial, energy organisation are hosting some free workshops on solar panels, SMART meters and energy training.

Hefty bill for HBC following pier appeals

Contesting and settling a claim for loss of business when it closed the pier for safety reasons in 2006 has landed Hastings Borough Council with a bill well in excess of £1 million. Nick Terdre reports.

Hastings Greenway news

The Hastings Greenway Project is an innovative network of linked almost traffic-free routes, that everyone can enjoy for leisure, amenity and utility walking, as well as cycling. Starting at Hastings Town Centre the Greenway will run 10 miles to Ore, Silverhill, Hollington & Mayfield and the Conquest Hospital. Here’s news of what’s coming up:

Launch of Silver Hill Press

There is definitely an appetite, pride and support for enterprising, affordable, well produced local publishing. Hastings Fish Cook Book is a specialist private publishing company, which published its first cook book in 2009 and produced three different editions and several reprints. The first edition sold out of a print run of 10,00o. Now there is another independent enterprise, Silverhill Press. Photographer Ian Land had the great idea of publishing a series of art monographs starting with photography and then extending out to poetry, possibly illustration and collage. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths asked Ian some questions about the project.
