Outlands

Outlands is a new national experimental music touring network, championing the genre-resistant and  bringing adventurous interdisciplinary music to the forefront. The first event in this series presents a new live collaboration from artists Matana Roberts and Kelly Jayne Jones at The De La Warr Pavilion around the UK this May.

Hastings remains a Labour stronghold

Thursday’s election saw Labour tightening its grip on the local council as it increased its number of councillors to 24. The Tories held onto the remainding eight seats, leaving other opposition parties out in the cold, though the Greens came tantalisingly close to taking a seat off Labour. Nick Terdre reports.

Hastings Lantern Trail shines a light on cancer

Residents of Hastings and Rother will be lighting up the streets on Friday 11 May with a special night time lantern trail to raise awareness of signs and symptoms of cancer. Report by Chris Cooper of Unique Improvements, a social enterprise that specialises in supporting community awareness of cancer.

Pier friends’ bank holiday fundraising stymied

The Friends of Hastings Pier have been given more time to demonstrate their ability to fund their bid but plans to use one of the kiosks on the pier as a base for publicising the fundraising campaign over the bank holiday weekend have been rejected. Nick Terdre reports.

Local MP Amber Rudd’s resignation as Home Secretary brings her hitherto meteoric rise to the top of British politics to a sudden halt.
