Bohemia Walled Garden: 10 year celebration

In 2009, a group of local people discovered a hidden jewel underneath brambles and weeds in Summerfields Wood and over the next 10 years, they turned it into a thriving community garden. Chairman John Freedman writes.

HOT’s Zelly Restorick watched the inspirational documentary, Demain recently at The Electric Palace – about sustainable living and what we can do to survive and thrive in the face of climate change and other environmental threats. For her, the delightful highlight of the film was Rob Hopkins, Founder of the Transition Town movement saying that things don’t need to be all gloom and doom. Things could be FABULOUS! 

Urgent need for a sustainable food system

Energise Sussex Coast and Transition Town Hastings recently organized a talk and supper event at The Beacon with organic farmer, Patrick Holden, who set up the Sustainable Food Trust. Our food industry system isn’t sustainable, says Holden – and, in order to avert a food crisis, there is an urgent need to transition to a system that is more appropriate to our planetary conditions. Secret walled garden

Visitors can discover the secrets of a hidden garden when the international Chelsea Fringe Festival comes to Hastings in May. Members of the Bohemia Walled Garden Association (BWGA) will celebrate the growing success of their community project on Sunday, 21 May, when they use their annual open day to host Fringe events. Lynda Foy reports.
