Local residents’ concerns about the Walk-in Centre appear to have been heard by the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) officers who have been pushing to replace the popular town centre resource with an Urgent Treatment Centre at the Conquest Hospital. Campaigning continued this Saturday with a Labour Party petition drive in the town centre, and a gathering outside the Walk-In Centre with Dawn Butler MP, shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities, joining the campaign. The fifth Battle Festival launches this weekend with a FREE carnival for the whole community. In 2005 the Hastings Democratic Alliance (HDA) was formed, aiming to promote participation and involvement in the democratic process, and to maintain a watching brief on the activities of public and private bodies. HOT’s Chandra Masoliver interviews former local councillor, Sue Palmer, and artist and activist, Colin Booth, both founder members of the HDA. They discuss the background of HDA, the achievements of the alliance and the prospect of its revival.
