Location, location, location: good news for the Walk-in Centre

Local residents’ concerns about the Walk-in Centre appear to have been heard by the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) officers who have been pushing to replace the popular town centre resource with an Urgent Treatment Centre at the Conquest Hospital. Campaigning continued this Saturday with a Labour Party petition drive in the town centre, and a gathering outside the Walk-In Centre with Dawn Butler MP, shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities, joining the campaign. Council halts tree works on Archery Ground

Council officers have intervened on the Archery Ground building site to put a stop to unauthorised work on protected trees. Meanwhile building continues apace though the developer’s application to slash the number of affordable houses has yet to be decided. Nick Terdre reports.

Carnival opens Battle Festival this Sunday

The fifth Battle Festival launches this weekend with a FREE carnival for the whole community. Festival Fiesta on Sunday (30 September, 12-4pm) welcomes an array of colourful live events and family activities to the Abbey Green, as well as inside Battle Abbey itself (from 2pm). Could the Hastings Democratic Alliance be revived?

In 2005 the Hastings Democratic Alliance (HDA) was formed, aiming to promote participation and involvement in the democratic process, and to maintain a watching brief on the activities of public and private bodies. HOT’s Chandra Masoliver interviews former local councillor, Sue Palmer, and artist and activist, Colin Booth, both founder members of the HDA. They discuss the background of HDA, the achievements of the alliance and the prospect of its revival.

Local Labour’s PR vote welcomed by Greens

The local Labour Party has endorsed the principle of proportional representation for parliamentary elections, a move that has been welcomed by Hastings Greens. Nick Terdre reports.

Music, food and film at AfriKaba festival

The AfriKaba festival kicks off this Saturday, 29th, with an afternoon of family entertainment and a free evening concert on the Stade. The festival continues the following weekend with a series of films and music at the Electric Palace cinema. Nick Terdre reports.
