Meet Keith, the man behind Trash Cannes

Keith Rodway’s life as a musician, author and film-maker reverberates to a heroic mash-up of opera, rock ’n’ roll and punk in equal measure. No surprise, then, that he’s the director of the Trash Cannes Film Festival, Hastings, about to launch its third event. He recalls to Judy Parkinson the journey that took him there.

The Flaming Galahs at the Beacon, 24 August

Wikipedia tells us that ‘galah’ is another name for the rose-breasted cockatoo; Urban Dictionary explains that a ‘flaming galah is a person who makes a fool of themselves, but isn’t afraid to laugh at themselves when everyone else starts laughing at them.’ In Hastings, The Flaming Galahs are an all-female musical trio consisting of Krysia Mansfield on vocals, Lucy Mulgan on double bass and vocals, and Lesley Anne Sammons on piano and vocals. HOT reporter Cathy Simpson spent an evening at the Beacon being enthralled and entertained!

HOT reporter John Cole spoke with PhotoHastings coordinator Cathryn Kemp about the exciting developments for photography in the Hastings creative area.

Wan’s writing on the walls – again

Kim Wan is a Hastings homeboy and one of the town’s biggest artists – in stature, as well as the size of his canvases and his reputation. HOT’s Erica Smith caught up with him just before Coastal Currents to find out about his latest venture re-decorating the Union Bar this Friday – and to learn about his spray-can happy past.
