Alchemy in Silchester Road
It’s a sign of positive change when new purposes are found for old buildings… HOT’s Erica Smith visits her new neighbours in Silchester Road and discovers the chemistry between them…
Until recently 4a Silchester Road was a tattoo parlour, but going back in street history, it was a chemist’s shop – as can be seen by the stained glass vials in the upper windows. Now, there’s been another transformation into a flexible workspace / gallery / venue for film nights – the Old Chemist’s is what you make it!
The driving force behind the transformative space is two Silchester Road residents – artist Marie-Louise Miller and film-maker Mauricio Vincenzi. Between them, and their group of associate artists, they plan to use their space for painting, drawing, super8 and celluloid wonders, projections, photography, workshops, curating, residency, projects. There is even space for Anti-Music and Anti-Art – check out the workshop run by Jason Williams – details below!
Workshops for Coastal Currents are currently available for booking but please be aware that spaces are limited, so book now to avoid disappointment!
