Runway’s Walk for Women

Join Runway artists for this year’s International Women’s Day walk to Bexhill. Meet on the sea front on Sunday 11 March at 10.30am to the west of Azur and stop for photographs on the way to Bexhill. Particpants are invited to wear dark clothing and bring some money to donate to the local Women’s Refuge. 

‘Meet You At The Mosaic’ project

Congratulations! The Transition Town Hastings (TTH) initiative, ‘Meet You At The Mosaic’, has been selected as one of the chosen projects for the March – April 2018 Tesco Bags of Help Grant Scheme. HOT’s Zelly Restorick, keen to spread the word and gather support, asks TTH about the project.

Friends react as pier put on sale

News that buyers are being sought for Hastings pier by the administrators has prompted action by the Friends of Hastings Pier, who have applied to have the structure reregistered as a community asset. Nick Terdre reports.

Funicular icicles not seen in 20 years

It’s not just Network Rail who have icicles in their tunnels! Over the last few days, temperatures have remained below freezing and ironically, on the first day of its summer opening programme, which starts on 1 March, long icicles have formed inside the tunnel of Hastings’ West Hill Lift, a 126 year old funicular railway which is still in operation.

Six battle through to reach piano finals

It was cold outside but plenty of heat was being generated in the auditorium of the White Rock Theatre by the semi-finalists in the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition. HOT correspondent Heidi de Winter watched and listened, drinking in the atmosphere and the music, as the remaining 11 contestants were whittled down to six. Photos by Bob Mazzer.

Vote Hastings for Ramblers’ prize

Help Hastings Old Town walk off with Ramblers’ prize. Hastings Old Town is in the running (walking?!) to win the very first Britain’s Best Walking Neighbourhood Award, launched by the Ramblers on Monday 26 February. It is one of ten areas to make it to the final public vote in the new award, which celebrates the places that put urban walkers first.
