St Mary in the Castle —
plans for Youth Centre still not resolved
No decision has yet been made on the detailed plans of Hastings Trust for Myplace funding. A final decision was promised for December but this is now looking extremely unlikely, plunging the future of St Mary in the Castle into doubt since the Council’s arrangements for a temporary lease depended on a decision in December.
Many issues remain unresolved, including the planning consent, listed building consent, fire safety and alcohol licensing for the proposed youth-run commercial venue.
At the Council’s staff do on Christmas Eve the normally invisible man, aka the Chief Exec, ran through a list of achievements. When he came to the planning approval for Jerwood there was a small cheer from one of the tables — possibly an ironic one? Then the announcement that “subject to approval” St Mary’s would become a youth centre was met by silence. What does it all mean??
