Free health walks
The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), who run the East Sussex Health Walks project are launching two new Health Walks. One from outside the station Plaza Medical centre in Hastings on Thursday 22 June and one from Hastings Pier.
Walking is a wonderful form of natural exercise, which is simple but it also very effective. We could prevent 37,000 deaths every year, just by taking a walk. In just a short time, walking can significantly improve your health, well-being and confidence.
Station Plaza Health Walk
The Hastings Town Centre Health Walk will be meeting outside the Station Plaza Medical Centre at 2pm on Thursday 22 June. This walk will then continue to take place every Thursday at the same meeting time and place.
The will be a gentle, hour long walk led by our experienced Volunteer Walk Leaders, who will guide you around some of the hidden gems that Hastings has to offer.
Jenny Deering, Health Walks Project Officer at TCV said: “Our walkers have a great deal of fun, making new friends and getting to know their local area. Many of us know we should be more active, but don’t always want to join a gym or exercise alone. Why not try a health walk, where you’ll probably be chatting away so much that you won’t even notice you’ve been exercising for an hour!”
Hastings Healthy Stroll On The Pier
A new 30 minute ‘Healthy Stroll on the Pier’ also starts on Thursday 22 June. This gentle walk will be led by our experienced Volunteer Walk Leaders, who will take you for a 30 minute stroll around the award winning Hastings Pier.
Jenny Deering, Health Walks Project Officer at TCV said: “Sometimes walking for an hour is a bit too much for some of our walkers. We all know that is is important to stay active and improve our health, but it can be especially daunting if you are hampered by ill health or problems with mobility. Our Stroll on the Pier is a very short, gentle walk and led by supportive volunteers, where you can walk at your own pace. The focus is on getting out into the fresh air, making new friends and enjoying the fabulous space that Hastings Pier is.”
Both walks are FREE and there is no need to book – just turn up! After the walks, you are welcome to come for a cuppa and chat at a local café.
