8–14 May is Mental Health Awareness Week
Mental Health has been in the news in a very positive way in the lead up to Mental Health Awareness Week. The focus this year is on Surviving or Thriving. The inspirational Sharon Rhodes, who has learned how to live with her mental health challenges and give back to her local community, tells HOT about the great things that will be going on in Hastings town centre from 8–14 May.
Happiness HQ for the week will be in the Central Hall at Bank Buildings, 6a Station Road. Bank Buildings is bang in the town centre – where the Clarence Pub and the Body Shop are. The entrance to Bank Buildings is between the newsagent and the mobile phone shop. You will find it because there will be a team of volunteers in the street encouraging you to come and visit Happiness HQ.
On Monday at 2.30pm, Kenny Mackay, the Strategic Commissioner for Mental Health in East Sussex will be launching the week’s events. Come and meet him and find out more about the initiatives available to support people with mental health challenges.
On Tuesday and Thursday there’s a pop up Happiness Cafe from 12.30–4pm with information, arts and crafts, activities and free cake to go with your tea.
On Saturday 13 May there will be a grand tea party with entertainment between 10 and 2. Also there will be daily guided health walks leaving Central Hall from Monday to Friday at 2pm every day. The walks will be led by Team Well Fit where you can find out about being a Team Well Fit Champion.
This is all being organised by Love Hastings Love Yourself in conjunction with Hastings Voluntary Action, Mind Charity Brighton and Hove, Together Hastings Your Way, NHS Partnership Trust, Team Well Fit, Hastings Borough Council and other integral organisations to do with mental health awareness.
