Free advice and information about grants to help pay home heating bills
British Gas and the Post Office have announced another round of its successful money and energy advice pop-ups. Erica Smith recommends that anyone struggling with paying their energy bills should visit the Post Office in London Road for a free money and energy advice consultation on Tuesday 7 March.
Like previous advice sessions at the Post Office, this pop-up aims to provide people with straight answers to their most pressing questions and direct them to independent advice available through British Gas Energy Trust and the organisations they fund – including how to access grants of up to £1,500. Representatives from Hastings Advice and Representation Centre will provide free, independent advice for anyone seeking help.
The British Gas Energy Trust, incorporating the Scottish Gas Energy Trust, is an independent charitable Trust funded solely by donations from British Gas. The Trust contributes to supporting those in financial difficulty, with a focus on energy debt. The Trust can help vulnerable households no matter who the energy supplier is.
Financial help for customers with pre-payment meters
To help households struggling with energy payments, British Gas is donating £10 million of customer support for vulnerable prepayment consumers to ensure the help gets to those who need it most. This donation comes off the back of recent research from Citizens Advice that revealed some customers are self-disconnecting from pre-payment meters without seeking help.
Jessica Taplin, British Gas Energy Trust Chief Executive said: “We know there’s a real need for community support, especially when so many people living in vulnerable communities don’t have access to online resources. These pop-ups will be a lifeline to those struggling this spring. Our mission is to help alleviate the detrimental impact of poverty. By working closely with local organisations we are able to provide financial and practical support to vulnerable members of the community, whether you’re a British Gas customer or not.”
Since 2004, over £130m has been invested in the Trust to support those most in need of help. And, to help with rising energy costs, British Gas is increasing its support for customers with the UK’s biggest ever energy support package.
The advice session is at St Leonards-on-Sea Post Office, 12–14 London Road, East Sussex, TN37 6AA on Tuesday 7 March. You are welcome to drop-in at any time between 11am and 2pm.
