Launch of Church Wood Community Orchard
Fully supported by Hastings Borough Council, Brighton Permaculture Trust, The Conservation Volunteers and friends, the Church Wood Community Orchard is an initiative from a new community group, whose members have planted an apple orchard in the grass area in Church Wood, a local Nature Reserve in Hollington. The group are celebrating the launch of the orchard on Saturday 7 August between 11am – 3pm. You are invited!
Alongside the planting of twelve apple trees – each of which will need care until they are established and yield fruit in two to three years’ time – they are developing a local species’ wildflower meadow – and there is also a central area for people to picnic.
The group’s aims are to enhance the value of this site for wildlife, children, local people and the public – and for the orchard to be used for social gatherings, nature related education and well being.
All welcome to go along and visit on this open day. There’s no charge, but we welcome donations and new volunteers.
Activities for children in the morning.
Talks 1pm – 2.30pm: ‘The creation and future of the orchard’.
PLEASE NOTE: This event will be organised re group size in consideration of Covid rules & concerns.
