Alexander Yau
An evening in with Alexander Yau online
This Friday Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition prizewinner Alexander Yau will join us for an evening of beautiful music, a prospect looked forward to by Chris Cormack.
Alexander Yau was one of the six finalists of the 2019 Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, where he gave a memorable full orchestral performance of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No 3 in D minor Op.30 which he described as an ‘Everest of piano concertos, requiring fearless technique and physical strength’.
Now based in New York for his master’s degree at the Juilliard School studying with Matti Raekallio, Alexander regularly performs recitals and chamber ensembles at the Alice Tully Hall in the Lincoln Centre with the Juilliard AXIOM ensemble and last year performed at the FOCUS Festival 2019: On the Air, held in the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre.
Programme:
Schubert/Liszt: Der Muller und der Bach
Liszt: La Leggierezza (Concert Etude no.2)
Chopin: Barcarolle in F sharp major Op.60
The concert will be given on Friday 1 May at 8pm.
The concerts are free to view, but viewers are invited to make a voluntary donation to Hastings International Piano Engagement Fund, or choose to join as a Friend whilst watching.
These donations help to continue the organisation’s work supporting young pianists as well as its engagement projects offered to the young people of Hastings and the surrounding area. These projects include free tickets to events as well as workshops, school visits and inspirational talks from visiting artists.
Watch live here – the video will appear just before 8pm on Friday or you can visit the Facebook page.
