25th anniversary tour brings Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman to St Mary’s
Husband and wife folk duo Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman will be playing at St Mary in the Castle on Wednesday 18 March as part of a UK tour celebrating 25 years of making music together. Venue manager Sean Berkeley reports.
Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman have long established themselves as one of the most rewardingly enduring partnerships on the UK folk scene. They have twice won Best Duo category in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, in 2013 and 2016.
To celebrate their 25-year milestone, the couple have embarked on a 27-stop UK tour On Reflection, also the title of their latest release, which sees them revisiting and reinterpreting songs spanning their career.
The evening promises a whistle-stop tour through their artistic journey, from the early days of folk supergroup Equation through to their previous release Personae, with a nod or two along the way to their extra-curricular musical adventures.
Articulate raconteurs, skilled musicians and innovative composers, Roberts and Lakeman share stories through traditional songs and original material which range from the bitter to the sweet, the wry to the sad, the political to the passive. This Dartmoor-based duo have fine-tuned their art into something original, captivating and totally engaging.
