Inaugural Hastings Garden Festival
The Hastings Botanic Garden Project will host the inaugural Hastings Garden Festival from 12-5pm on Sunday 18 June at the former bowling greens above Falaise Fitness Centre in the wonderful setting of White Rock Gardens. Free entry. Alexander Wilberforce writes.
The Festival will showcase charities and community groups benefitting the Hastings area with green space, gardening, growing and natural wellbeing initiatives.
There will be live music, children’s activities and workshops – all in a meadow setting with straw bales, overlooking the sea. At its centre will be The Shoot, a 5-metre bamboo art installation commissioned for the event and created by local artist, Joseph Williams.

The Hastings Botanic Garden Project will also explore commemorating local botanic artist and eco-visionary Marianne North (1830-1890), drawing attention to the little-known history of her lifelong links to Hastings and the various schemes to build a Winter Garden here dating back to 1876.

Performances will include:
· Following their sell-out sessions at Hastings Museum, The Butterfly Wheel will share their transcendent soundscapes, songs and poetry
· The Glen Dean Duo will energise Hastings Garden Festival with a fantastic unplugged set
· Enchanting harp music from Catherine and Elizabeth Rajhans (Ukrainian students at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance under the Head of the Harp Department, Gabriella Dall’Olio)
All interspersed with lighter moments from Tiago Fonseca, renowned Spanish clown, acrobat and juggler.
The Sound Apothecary will round off the event with a hypnotic ‘Crystalline Dreams’ Sound Bath inside the event tent (separate paid ticket event).
Children’s crafts on a Marianne North theme will be provided by Natasha Cossey and circus skills by Joe Fleming of the Circadian Troupe (who will both be performing at Glastonbury a few days later).
Lastly, a raffle will provide the opportunity to win a range of amazing products and experiences from local suppliers, including accommodation packages.
There will be ample room for picnics (but NO alcohol or BBQs allowed). Caribbean food and ambience will be provided by Fish (cash only please), plus cold refreshments on site.
An afternoon of quality, relaxed entertainment – ideal for Father’s Day.
