Hastings' main post office - closed as usual this Sunday, but will it shortly close for ever?
Defend Hastings post office!
A public meeting has been called this Monday, 29 April, to protest plans to close the main Hastings post office. It will be held at 6pm at the White Rock Hotel.
The meeting will be addressed by Sarah Owen, Labour’s parliamentary candidate, council leader Jeremy Birch, Andy Furey of the Communication Workers Union and Roger Gale, general manager of Post Office Ltd.
Local MP Amber Rudd is unable to attend but tells HOT she is opposed to plans to downgrade or move the post office. Both she and Ms Owen have set up online petitions in defence of the post office.
Under the Post Office plan, the branch would ‘partner’ with a local retailer, meaning that postal services would be run from desks within a local store. The proposal, which is out to consultation, has understandably aroused widespread opposition in the town.
Meeting: at White Rock Hotel, 6pm, Monday 29 April.
Online petitions: Sarah Owen’s, Amber Rudd’s.
