Local Make Votes Matter to hold meeting on Tuesday
The Hastings branch of Make Votes Matter, the cross-party campaign group for proportional representation, is holding a joint meeting with the Lewes branch on Tuesday 2 November. Items will include report-backs from the Labour Party and Unite Union conferences. Nick Terdre reports.

Sewage detritus remains after ineffective beach clean
Southern Water has told MP Sally-Ann Hart that it performed a clean-up of the section of Bulverhythe beach polluted by July’s sewage leak, but much detritus remains in place. It has also made compensation offers to several affected hut owners – the going rate is around £950. Nick Terdre reports.
Local designer wins national awards for Sedlescombe school sensory garden
HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was delighted to learn that local garden designer Kristina Clode has won two prestigious national awards for designing Sedlescombe Primary School’s sensory garden. The garden was selected for both the Design for the Environment and Judges’ awards by the Society of Garden Designers in an annual event which highlights the very best in horticultural design and innovation across the UK.
Grandparents marching against Climate Change
On Saturday 6 November, local grandparents will be staging a peaceful march along the seafront in Hastings. They want to express their deep concern for the environment and the legacy they are leaving behind for their children and grandchildren.
