Grandparents marching against Climate Change
On Saturday 6 November, local grandparents will be staging a peaceful march along the seafront in Hastings. They want to express their deep concern for the environment and the legacy they are leaving behind for their children and grandchildren.
As the UK hosts the COP26 (UN Climate Change Conference), the group feel that it has never been more urgent to raise their voices. Time is running out to save our planet. They want to see meaningful actions and financial support by our government, not just empty words and promises.
One disgruntled gran said: “I am grieving for my grandchildren’s future. I feel I need to do something, that’s why I want to join the march.” Whilst another said: “We don’t want our grandchildren to learn about Geography as if it was History!”
A third dismayed grandparent said: “I can’t look into my grandkids’ eyes and say ‘I did nothing to stop the poisoning of the earth’.”
You don’t have to be a granny or grandpa to join the march – young, old, parents, grandparents and the child-free are all welcome to add their voices to the protest.
The Grrrans will be meeting at The Stade, Rock-a-Nore, at 2pm on Saturday 6 November. The march will go along the seafront, via Robertson Street, to Hastings Pier. The organisers ask participants to wear black, if possible.
