Houses earn more than people

On Saturday, 9 October, Hastings Rental Health held their first public event in Hastings town centre to show the widespread concern over rising rents and the lack of affordable homes in the area. HOT’s Erica Smith reeled when she heard that last year the average house in Hastings ‘earned’ two and a half times the wage of the average local worker.

Aldi use aggressive tactics to evict two families

At 9am on Wednesday 6 October, bailiffs and police came to evict two couples living on ‘the old Stamco site’ off Bexhill Road. The land is now owned by Aldi but has been lying derelict for years. Erica Smith was there to witness the processs.

In memoriam: Brian Hick

The music and arts critic Brian Hick, who acted as HOT’s music correspondent for a couple of years, sadly passed away in May after a period of illness. We are grateful to his colleague Stephen Page for permission to reprint his obituary from Lark Reviews, a website dedicated to news and reviews of classical music and poetry set up by Brian and now run by Stephen.
