Can you help out HOT?

HOT has been here reporting about Hastings for over a decade now. We have a wide readership – online, through social media re-posts and via our twice a week MailChimp mailouts. What we are not good at is asking for anything in return… so Erica Smith is asking you if you can help HOT by doing one of the following things:

• Write an article about something you love (or think could be better) about the area. I write articles for HOT because I love this town and I like to sing the praises of the people and places and campaigns that mean something to me. Recently I’ve written articles about an artist whose work I admire (Mark Daniels), an eviction of travellers that I witnessed and a campaign about how housing is becoming unaffordable here.
  A question – what would YOU like to write about? Get in touch and tell us!
• Volunteer to put upcoming events on our Whats On page… it’s easy – we can show you how. You can keep up to date with what’s going on and you will probably be offered free tickets from local venues/promoters.
• Advertise! If you have a local business or are promoting an event, then put an advert up! It currently costs £30 per month. And even cheaper if you choose to pay for an advert for 6 months or a year at a time. The adverts click through to your website. HOT has great readership from local people, people coming here on holiday and people who are thinking of moving to the area. And you can feel good that your business is supporting a valuable local publication.
• Help us with our finanical returns to Companies House and HMRC… our valiant editor-in-chief Nick Terdre currently does this, but I know he’d really appreciate some help every now and again from someone who knows what they are doing.
• If you like us, just donate some money! You can do that through our PayPal link – or contact us and we’ll give you our banking details so you can do it direct.

Sometimes writing for HOT can seem a thankless task – all the feedback we get is from people hiding behind pseudonyms when they write their comments below articles. It would be lovely to know that HOT is appreciated. We’d love more citizen journalists to write up features that they feel passionate about, and we’d love more advertisers and some more donations – either one-off payments or a small monthly recurring payment.
