Beatles Day 20 – as founder Pete prepares to say goodbye

It’s the 20th edition of Beatles Day this Sunday and founder and mainstay Pete Prescott’s last hurrah. He takes his leave as organiser against the background of a record number of acts and the inauguration of a fourth stage to accommodate them all. Nick Terdre reports.

Sad passing of John the Cobbler

On 4 April John Napier, known as John the Cobbler, died after a long fight against cancer. His shop at 64D High Street was known as the hub of the Old Town, to people and dogs alike.

Blue Rumour…more than just hearsay!

Pete Burden: talented and generous jazzman

Influential jazz saxophonist Pete Burden passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of 27 December 2016 at the age of 75. Christopher Hoggins, who knew Pete well and once painted his portrait, recalls a life well-lived by a highly talented and generous musician.

In memory of Pete Burden

Saxophonist Pete Burden, a familiar figure to jazz-lovers in Hastings and well beyond, died in hospital last week. Tony Frost, a regular in the audience, writes a short appreciation, provides the pictures and rounds up some of the tributes paid to Pete.

Ebola orphans in Sierra Leone

Local musicians resuscitate Twin Town connection

World renowned, locally-based jazz singer, Liane Carroll and popular local band, The Kytes are getting together to back the campaign to help our Twin Town, Hastings, Sierra Leone in its recovery from the devastating Ebola outbreak and from the recent floods. They will be playing at the Friendship Link’s Charity Ball at The Montgomerie Suite, Bannatynes Hotel on Saturday 31 October.

Fundraising for fire-damaged St Michael’s

Following the tragic fire of July 11th 2015 that affected and subsequently closed St Michael’s Hospice in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex, a trio of Hastings-based musicians, promoters and local music enthusiasts decided that something needed to be done to help and support this much loved local service.
