Headway East Sussex launches fundraiser challenge

Since the coronavirus struck, many charities have been deprived of their main source of income – fundraising through public events such as the London Marathon, which was due to be held today. One such is Headway East Sussex, which supports survivors of brain injuries. Now they have got together with other charities in the same boat to launch the 2.6 Challenge to raise funds, as they explain.

£10m fund to help fishermen hard hit by coronavirus

Community initiative provides emergency food in Broomgrove Estate

An evening in with Sylvia Jiang, piano concerto competition prizewinner, online

It is no surprise that Hastings International Piano (HIP)’s An Evening In with… concert series has been a success. Innovative culture is always welcome – and now more so than ever with theatres and cinemas closed due to  Covid-19. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths is pleased that the series continues this Friday, 24 April, with Sylvia Jiang, a prizewinner at the 2019 Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition.

Care homes in the spotlight: PPE lacking and death toll under-reported

Nearly four weeks after the UK entered into lockdown, care homes have finally hit the headlines, as issues such as the lack of personal protective equipment for staff and the substantial under-reporting of deaths among residents come to the fore. In Hastings grassroots suppliers are helping to fill the equipment gap, while East Sussex County Council is also taking action to improve the supply of PPE. Care sector sources are talking of fatalities in the thousands. Nick Terdre reports.
