Pete Donohue is a poet, short story writer, cartoonist and literary editor of The Hastings Independent Press. He talks to Angela J. Phillip about his life and work and what brought him to Hastings.

Ahead of the first hustings on Friday afternoon, the independent candidate, who will be present at it, is making himself known. Government policies affecting poverty, the NHS and education have come under fire from the Labour and Lib Dem candidates, whil the Tory candidate has declared her opposition to the council’s plans for a large housing development on the old bathing pool site. Local artist Nick Hill has an exhibition of paintings and other work opening in the Zoom Arts gallery at Warrior Square station on Saturday 23 November. Raising money for charity is close to his heart – having raised £500, he is now aiming to reach £1,000, as he explains.
On Saturday morning, 23 November, the Old Bathing Pool site campaign is holding a demonstration on the site in Seaside Road, West St Leonards. Bernard McGinley, who also took the pictures, reports.
This Friday, 22 November, a little girl called Daisy is hosting a party in All Saints Church Hall, Sidley. There will be a visit from a Princess, a disco, dancing, drinks and snack – but this isn’t a birthday party – it’s a fundraiser for Bexhill Foodbank. HOT’s Erica Smith went to meet the amazing little girl who has organised this special event.
Election hustings will be held on Friday afternoon in the town centre, courtesy of Extinction Rebellion’s local branch. The presence of three of the four candidates is confirmed. Places must be booked and questions submitted beforehand. Nick Terdre reports.
