Corbyn in Hastings to consult about NHS and social care

On Thursday 17 January, Hastings will host a consultation event to feed into Labour Party policy. The subject will be the NHS and social care. There will be two parts to the event – a rally at 10am with addresses by Jeremy Corbyn and other speakers, followed by a more focused consultation event in the afternoon. Local Labour Party member Erica Smith reports.

Solar panels in the Country Park – ecology or politics? II

Hastings Borough Council passed a resolution at the Cabinet meeting on 7 January to spend up to £80,000 investigating whether to install 10 acres of solar panels in two arrays in Hastings Country Park. A third array is proposed for Upper Wilting Farm in Crowhurst. In her second interview on the matter, HOT’s Chandra Masoliver talks to  Michael Moor, chair of The Friends of Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve, which has strenuously opposed the development.

Patmore: why I opposed solar farms proposal at Cabinet

At last week’s Cabinet meeting Conservative councillor Andy Patmore, together with his colleague Cllr Rob Lee, voted against the motion to authorise feasibility studies costing £80,000 for the ground-mounted solar farms proposed by the council for the Country Park. Here he explains his reasons for doing so, and why he thinks it is crucial to seek Natural England’s comments on the proposal as the next step – a move which was approved as an amendment.

Solar panels in Hastings Country Park – ecology or politics?

Hastings Borough Council (HBC), with its majority of Labour councillors, has proposed to put two arrays of solar panels in the Country Park and one at Upper Wilting Farm in Crowhurst. Amber Rudd, Hastings and Rye Conservative MP, has launched a petition against this. HOT’s Chandra Masoliver asks Julia Hilton, spokesperson for Hastings Green Party, for her thoughts on the ecological and political issues involved.

Come and support the pier!

Supporters of the pier are invited to a community gathering on Saturday morning to “demonstrate that we love Hastings Pier!”The event follows on the announcement that the pier will be closed until March for repair work. Nick Terdre reports, photos by Russell Jacobs.

Council’s solar farms scheme faces Natural England test

Hastings Borough Council’s Cabinet has decided to give priority to consulting Natural England on its plan to locate solar farms in the Country Park – if the agency gives the thumbs down, the plan will not be able to proceed. Objectors attended the meeting in some numbers, just one indication that the plan is proving controversial. The Greens are holding a public meeting this evening, Thursday 10th, to discuss it. Nick Terdre reports.
