Grant deadline early Wednesday!

Warm welcome for decision to drop solar farms proposal

Hastings Borough Council’s decision to drop its proposal to install solar farms in the Country Park has been widely welcomed. HOT has now received comments from Tory councillor Andy Patmore and the Green Party’s Julia Hilton. Nick Terdre reports.

Feasibility studies for solar farms are dubbed “reckless”

The Friends of Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve have condemned Hastings Borough Council’s “reckless” refusal to listen to advice from Natural England on their proposal to build two solar farms in the Country Park. But the council leader still says that an adverse report from the agency could cause the project to be dropped. Nick Terdre reports.

Climate motion passed by HBC, but Greens disappointed

Hastings now has a climate emergency policy, following the unanimous approval given by the full council last week. A Tory amendment was voted down, and the Greens, who started the climate emergency ball rolling, declared themselves disappointed with the policy. Nick Terdre reports.

Councillor resigns from Labour over antisemitism concerns

Cllr Dany Louise this week resigned from the Labour Party, citing a “huge rise of antisemitism amongst the Party membership.” However she says she will remain a local councillor sitting as an independent. Nick Terdre reports.

Solar Panels in the Country Park – ecology or politics? III

Hastings Borough Council (HBC) passed a resolution at the Cabinet meeting on 7 January to spend up to £80,000 investigating whether to install three solar farms, two in Hastings Country Park and one in Upper Wilting Farm in Crowhurst. In this third interview HOT’s Chandra Masoliver asks Kay Green, publisher, bookseller and blogger, her opinion of this proposal, and the public’s reaction to it. Kay is a active member of the local Labour Party, currently helping to set up the Labour Women’s Forum to increase the party’s involvement with local and community-based campaigns.

Patmore: why I opposed solar farms proposal at Cabinet

At last week’s Cabinet meeting Conservative councillor Andy Patmore, together with his colleague Cllr Rob Lee, voted against the motion to authorise feasibility studies costing £80,000 for the ground-mounted solar farms proposed by the council for the Country Park. Here he explains his reasons for doing so, and why he thinks it is crucial to seek Natural England’s comments on the proposal as the next step – a move which was approved as an amendment.
