HFS launches mobile training

With the support of Sussex Freemasons, Hastings Furniture Services has set up a mobile workshop to take training opportunities to people unable to come to them, as the charity reports.

Surviving Christmas in top gear

Pier friends opt for new role

Nearly six months on since the pier passed into private hands, the Friends of Hastings Pier have decided they still want to be involved in helping to ensure the pier’s long-term future. They would like to cultivate a constructive relationship with the new owner but also to perform a watchdog function over matters such as maintenance which are essential to the survival of the iconic structure. Surviving the Streets to provide Christmas cheer at the Y Centre

Artisan and Craft Beer Festival at St Marys

St Mary in the Castle are hosting their first ever Artisan and Craft Beer Festival, alongside a Christmas market in the Crypt on 22 December. There will be live music from Suspect (Hastings Beer Festival headliners) and projections of winter sports, as well as a selection of some of the best craft beer in East Sussex.

Children homeless this Christmas – the result of Tory austerity

More than 80 children in Hastings will be homeless this Christmas according to Shelter. And the number is rising. The latest analysis by the housing charity indicates that 83 children in our town will spend Christmas in temporary accommodation – far from the comfort of home. Rick Dillon of the local Labour Party investigates.

Launch of 1066 Local Energy share offer

Hastings will see its first ever community energy investment offer go live this week with residents able to buy shares to fund 250 kilowatts of solar (roughly 1066 panels) on the roof of the Ore campus of East Sussex Coast College. Kate Meakin from the 1066 Local Energy campaign writes.
