For once, the judges of the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition come under the spotlight as they participate in the masterclass for the semi-final contestants at Fairlight Hall this Thursday. What better opportunity could there be for piano teachers, prospective entrants and others generally interested in such competitions to appreciate what goes on in a judge’s mind, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack?
The day off has given me time to get my coughing sorted out, apologise and change my mind, writes David Pullen.
The Axe has fallen and 21 of the 39 competitors are out. I felt that the Jury Chairman, Frank Wibaut, handled it extremely well, and am confident that none of them felt failures as a result of this rather brutal end, particularly when so many of them had come from America and Asia.
