Wakin’ Snakes

Julian Matthews started out as a chorister and latterly founded the popular local group, Wakin’ Snakes, which has been entertaining appreciative audiences with their unique brand of American old time and bluegrass. Alice Privett sings

A beautiful, accomplished young classical singer will delight us with songs and arias from the classical repertoire, including Schubert’s masterpiece, ‘Shepherd on the Rock’, to help raise money for this year’s  Young Artists’ touring production of Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore on 5 September. The performance will be topped off with accompaniment by outstanding clarinettist, Andrew Sparling, and Glyndebourne pianist, Nicholas Bosworth, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

Film music for a young audience

The Sussex Concert Orchestra will perform an interesting selection of Sibelius, Smetana ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ symphonic dances together with ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’.  This is an opportunity for film and musical buffs to reinforce their appreciation of the music they learned to love in the cinema and theatre, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

Revolving door at the U’s

As the long Hastings United season draws to a close, perhaps it’s a case of what should’ve been, rather than what could’ve been. After last season’s play-off disappointment, the only way for the U’s seemed to be up. With high expectations from seemingly every supporter, HOT’s Liam Willis analyses how the season has panned out.

Jerwood goes Scottish

There has long been a tradition of individuals following their love of art, collecting paintings, often with a common theme and then forming foundations. Two such Foundations, the Jerwood and the Scottish Fleming–Wyfold have banded together to show work by specific artists featured in their two collections. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went along to see how the two collections blended together.
