Johan Muyle has Left The Building – drawings, photographs & sculptures

“… One day in May, finding myself unexpectedly a guest in an English seaside villa, I allowed myself to be seduced by the idea of slipping some drawings and sculptures into the orderly chaos of this charmingly nostalgic house. Once my sense of curiosity and readiness to respond to the unforeseen had been aroused, the notions of ‘serendipity’ or ‘happenstance’ have led me to freely explore and take advantage of the unexpected, to think outside of the box, in search of a new way of experiencing things that question the status of the work of art…”. Extract of a conversation between Johan Muyle and Christine Gist, July 2014

After 17 years lying vacant, a £1.17m funding package is now in place to renovate the White Rock Baths and convert it into a world class BMX and skateboarding facility. Hastings Borough Council (HBC) will soon start work to restore the huge but near-derelict old baths under the promenade to make the building usable, following which it will be fitted out by the instigators of the project, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

Meet Keith, the man behind Trash Cannes

Keith Rodway’s life as a musician, author and film-maker reverberates to a heroic mash-up of opera, rock ’n’ roll and punk in equal measure. No surprise, then, that he’s the director of the Trash Cannes Film Festival, Hastings, about to launch its third event. He recalls to Judy Parkinson the journey that took him there.
