HOT columnist Sean O’Shea interviews writer Leigh Kennedy who was born in Denver, Colorado, but now lives in Hastings. She has written two novels, The Journal of Nicholas the American and Saint Hiroshima, and two short story collections, Faces and Wind Angels.
This week Hastings is celebrating the wonderful news of the £11.4 million Heritage Lottery Fund for the pier. It’s been six long years of fighting, but thanks to their patience and persistence, it looks like things are beginning to move.
Recent research by local historian Nick Austin points to Crowhurst Valley as the site of the Battle of Hastings – just where the Bexhill to Hastings link road is due to be built. If the road goes ahead on the currently planned route, he fears it will destroy what could become a World Heritage Site and a major attraction for Hastings, writes Nick Terdre.
