Three cheers for the Pier
This week Hastings is celebrating the wonderful news of the £11.4 million Heritage Lottery Fund for the pier. Hastings Online Times would like to add our cheers for the Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust (HPWRT) into the mix. It’s been six long years of fighting, but thanks to their patience and persistence, it looks like things are beginning to move.
Local residents and past residents are cock-a-hoop about the news. Even Jo Brand is happy. She said, “I was gutted when the Pier was gutted and it’s really great news that the Heritage Lottery Fund is awarding such a substantial sum of money to help with restoration work. I can’t wait to see the new pier rise out of the ashes in the next couple of years. Hooray!”
However, another £2.5 million needs to be raised – and in these recessionary times, that will still be a challenge. HPWRT are encouraging any residents with a spare £200 or more to invest in Community Shares. If your budget doesn’t stretch that far, then there are other ways you can help – simply by making a donation via PayPal, sponsoring a plank, or becoming a member of the Trust.
