Poets and singers in joint celebration of Atatürk
As part of a series of themed events around “The Challenge of Change”, and an 80th anniversary celebration of Jemal Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of modern Turkey, Hastings Philharmonic Chamber Choir will join poets from the Hastings Stanza group at The Beacon in St Mary’s Terrace on Tuesday 30 April at 7.30 pm for an evening of entertainment in song and verse, writes Chris Cormack.
The chamber choir will sing a series of pieces showing the development of choral music from Gregorian chant to the present day, while eight poets from the Stanza group will each read poems which will deal with specific aspects of change. This may be the impact of childbirth, the end of a relationship, or a change in society and its norms.
Hastings Stanza, which is affiliated to the Poetry Society, brings together local poets interested in improving their craft, a number of whom are regularly published in the poetry press.
With its varied content and the added attraction of a cash bar, the evening should provide enjoyment and interest to lovers of both poetry and music.
“The Challenge of Change”, Hastings Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Hastings Stanza, poetry and music, 7.30pm, Tuesday 30 April at the Beacon, 67-68 St Mary’s Terrace, Hastings TN34 3LS. Admission is free and supported by Fairlight Arts Trust, Hastings Borough Council and the Arts Council.
