Bathed in Gold: Brahms songs and piano repertoire at St John the Evangelist
On Friday 9 June, St John the Evangelist in Pevensey Road will be bathed in the golden sounds of Brahms.
Jenny Miller and Francis Rayner have prepared an exquisite, golden evening of Brahm’s most loved and familiar piano intermezzi and songs, as well as a few fabulous rarities.
Barefoot Opera director, Jenny Miller, says, “St John’s Church is ideal for our purposes, as we plan to reconfigure the easily moved seating, to create a more intimate, almost drawingroom atmosphere. When the audience enter, (doors and bar open from 7pm), they will find chairs grouped around small tables, a carpet on the floor, candles, a huge gold framed ‘painting’ that actually gives translations of the songs. And Francis will be playing quietly to himself (Brahms waltzes) to set the mood.”
This is a fundraiser for St John the Evangelist, which has so generously supported Barefoot Opera activities, so do join us in both relishing great music, and supporting the work of St John the Evangelist in our local community.
Jenny is a member of the congregation of the Church which actively supports arts events and supports Barefoot Opera, the company Jenny founded over a decade ago. She says, “We are keen to support the Church’s work in the community, which includes a Tuesday playgroup for local pre-schoolers, hosting the Seaview Christmas concert, and until recently the POSH club for seniors.”
