Joan Taylor Rowan
Word and artwork fusion
ART Stories is an event hosted by Joan Taylor Rowan at The Jerwood Gallery on Sunday 30 September 3pm – 4.30pm, comprising three stories she herself has written and one winner of the competition for a short story inspired by a specific personally chosen piece of Jerwood artwork.

“Three women by the Sea”, by Michael Rothenstein, inspiration for Joan’s story “Three Sisters on the Edge,”
Joan’s stories are wry, poignant and have been inspired by specific pieces of artwork – and all have appeared, or are about to appear, in anthologies of short stories. Two of Joan’s three stories have been highly placed in international competitions and her stories have been broadcast on Radio 4 and have been performed in events in London, Brighton and New York.
Joan’s novel The Birdskin Shoes is available in print on Amazon and as an e-book. She also teaches Creative Writing in St Leonard’s: contact joantaylorrowan@gmail.com for details.
*** The fourth Jerwood art-inspired story will be the winner of the competition Joan launched earlier this year. HOT’s very own Erica Smith (she was one of the 2-3 human catalysts who started HOT all those many years ago and who is still an active HOT writer today) submitted a story inspired by a Jerwood painting, which has been short-listed, so we’re particularly excited for both her and Joan – and hope lots of people will support this event.
