Drum circle to raise funds for African women
Alison Surridge, a drumming master trained by Djembe African nationals, is running a drumming circle at Lizzie May’s African fundraising night at Cambridge Hall at 7pm on Saturday 5 October, opposite ESK in Cambridge Road in Hastings.
This is a fundraiser to provide ready-2-go sustainable, re-usable fem-care pads, soap and panties kits, a scheme for setting up in-country micro businesses. Young women can make these kits themselves, alongside an ongoing and re-training programme for teachers in 300 schools around sex education.
“Help us please to help relieve the plight of hundreds of vulnerable and orphaned girls in Democratic Republic of Congo and give them the education they deserve”, says Lizzie May.
“And at our African Night, our charity’s Congolese friend, Alex Ntung, human rights expert, is doing a quick TED-type talk about Congolese life. His wife, Esther Ntung, will do an authentic dancing set – and then we can join in – to lovely Congolese music and we will have some Congolese food too. The evening rounds up with a short art auction of lovely artworks kindly donated by our very own Rachel Lever. And you can Bring Your Own (BYO) alco or soft drinks too.
“All this for just £10, which will go to helping us reach our charity £15,000 target. Please come along! All welcome!”
