Horizon celebrates local learners
So far in 2015, the European Social Fund (ESF) has funded courses at Horizons Community Learning to improve the skills and knowledge of over 100 local adults of all ages. In the three years that ESF has been supporting Horizons, more than 350 learners have completed various courses, ranging from food hygiene and confidence-building to working towards GCSEs.
Horizons Community Learning – an excellent, caring and compassionate local educational CIC (community interest company) – works with adults of all ages from disadvantaged backgrounds in Hastings, St Leonards and Rother, ensuring they have support to complete their personal learning goals and removing barriers to education by providing free advice and guidance, learning with a crèche, and a friendly, welcoming environment to learn and progress.
One participant who completed an ESF-funded ‘Art with Confidence’ course had suffered from depression and anxiety and didn’t like leaving her home. Attending this course gave her more confidence and she now wants to complete a counselling qualification: “This course has enabled me to rebuild my life and the crèche enabled me to attend and do this”.
If you would like to know more about how Horizons Community Learning could help you – or possibly how you could help them – please call 01424 204136 and begin your learning journey with Horizons.
