Hilton explains all Green Cabinet

While Green Party council leader Julia Hilton reiterated her party’s position of wanting to work with other parties at last week’s annual Full Council meeting, she also found herself criticised for forming an all Green Cabinet. Though she confirmed her support for replacing the cabinet with a committee system, she did not see this being possible in the short term. Nick Terdre reports.

Free workshop on the parallel non-monetary economy

Kendal Eaton wants to start a movement based on his theory of the parallel non-monetary economy which he claims is a peaceful means of empowering people to regain control over their lives without provoking violent opposition from the wealthy elite. As a first step he is holding an introductory workshop on Thursday 30 May. Nick Terdre reports.

Songwriter #3 – Eugene Coyne

Eugene Coyne has a lifelong interest in writing songs, being the son of the acclaimed unorthodox composer and writer Kevin Coyne. For many years Eugene has been part of the alternative London-based music-making community writing and presenting his original and innovative songs. He performs in Hastings at 1200 Postcards Bar on 1 June at 8pm. Here he talks to Jude Montague about one of his recently recorded songs.

Book Festival ends with completion of Platform Panel Project at Warrior Square station, and celebration of local railways

Recently the 2024 A Town Explores a Book festivities came to an end after their extensive exploration of E. Nesbit’s The Railway Children. The Platform Panel Project celebrated the highlighting of the railway workforce and the building of the local railway infrastructure. The Festival ended with film shows and prizegiving, and an announcement of next year’s exciting programme. Bernard McGinley reports.

Greens in full control of Hastings Borough Council

On Wednesday evening, while the nation was absorbing the news that the general election will be held on 4 July, in Hastings we were watching how the Green gains in the recent local elections played out in the organisation of the new council, in which both leadership positions as well as all Cabinet posts have been filled by Greens.
