Greens accuse Labour of “power grab” at Full Council

The local Green Party has accused Labour of a “power grab” after Labour councillors were elected to all committee chairs and vice chairs with the help of a Reform UK councillor, Lucian Fernando.  They also criticise Labour’s handling of various council issues. Labour has denied doing a deal with Fernando. Nick Terdre reports.

Ross Stanley’s tribute to Michael Brecker

For Jazz Hastings’ next session on Tuesday 6 June, UK pianist and organist Ross Stanley has put together an all-star band to present Time is of the Essence, a tribute to the great American saxophonist Michael Brecker, one of the most influential sax players since John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter. Julian Norridge sings the praises of Paul Booth – the saxophonist taking the lead role and the other musicians in this unique line-up.

Moram Ali is having an exhibition of his stunning, spectacularly colourful and eye-catching paintings at the Hastings Arts’ Forum from 30 May til 11 June, with an open evening on Friday 2 June from 6 til 8pm. You can catch this wonderfully inspirational exhibition daily from Tuesday to Sunday. HOT’s Zelly Restorick asks Moram Ali about his love of painting and creativity. All profits from the paintings will be donated to UNICEF.

Julie Riley gives it LOUD

Julie Riley of the band I am HER is also the organiser of LOUD WOMEN events in Hastings. On Tuesday 6 June, she opens for a Dimple Discs showcase night at The Piper. On the bill are Keeley, Dragon Welding (aka Andy Golding from The Wolfhounds) and Montague Armstrong. Jude Montague of Montague Armstrong interviews Julie Riley about her life in music.

Kianush Robeson’s Impressions of Segovia at Blacklands Church

Blacklands Church in Hastings hosted an afternoon of classical guitar music recalling the Spanish master Andrés Segovia by Kianush Robeson last Sunday, 21 May. Stewart Rayment was there to savour a special occasion, and also took the photos.
