This weekend, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22, is the second and final weekend of the Silverhill Press Presents exhibition at Electro Studios Project Space. Erica Smith sings the praises of a perfect exhibition in the perfect setting.
There is always a first time for everything. And this year was gallerist Lucy Bell’s first time exhibiting at the international photography show, PhotoLondon at Somerset House. The fair has been going since 2004 at the Royal Academy, then Old Billingsgate for a year and then stopped. It was rekindled in 2015, had its Covid hiccups and was back again last year. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to check her out at the Fair.
Strandliners is a local Community Interest Company headed by human dynamo, Andy Dinsdale and a team of determined and loyal volunteers. Their mission statement: ‘increasing public awareness of our environment through citizen science and community engagement’. Zelly Restorick reports.

When Hastings Pier was sold off in June 2018, the Hastings Pier Charity staff were transferred to the new owner too — for a while. Sheikh Abid Gulzar was a controversial employer. By late 2018 the Chief Engineer and his assistant had quit, and many others. At an Employment Tribunal in Ashford this week, the engineers Peter Wheeler and Daisy Hill stated their case. Sheikh Abid Gulzar did not even show up (nor anyone on his behalf). Bernard McGinley was among those in the room to hear the judge’s decisions.
Following the successful return of Sunday Sonics at The Crypt in February, and heavyweight sets by groundbreaking international electronic artists Yao Bobby & Simon Grab and Dhangsha at The Piper in St Leonards on Sea last month, Sonics present two more electrifying acts on 20th May 2022. The Sonics’ James Weaver has the details.
Hastings Contemporary opened 10 years ago on the Stade, right next to the beach that hosts Europe’s largest beach-launched fishing fleet and where fishermen have been launching and landing their boats for over 1,000 years. It seems apt, therefore, to celebrate those 10 years with the exhibition Seafaring. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was delighted to explore.
